ConGen 2027 · Frederick, Maryland

Frederick, Maryland

ConGen 2027 meets in Frederick, a city with a walkable historic center, a long research connection, and easy access to the mountains and the Washington–Baltimore region.

Meet Frederick

Frederick’s historic downtown brings together nineteenth-century streets, public art, restaurants, and museums. Carroll Creek Park ↗ crosses the center of town and makes an easy place to walk after a day of course work.

Beyond downtown, Frederick County reaches toward the Catoctin and South Mountain landscapes. The Catoctin Mountain Park trail guide ↗ and the Appalachian Trail at Gathland State Park ↗ are good starting points for planning an outing.

Why this setting fits ConGen

Frederick connects field landscapes, a college campus, and the area’s history of genetic research. ConGen 2027 is hosted at Hood College; the Laboratory of Genomic Diversity’s earlier work in Frederick is part of the course’s wider scientific story, not a current course facility.
